Making disciples: The story of Martin Jones

In 2021, God placed a conviction on Martin Jones' heart around making disciples. On realising that he didn't quite know what that would involve, he began a journey of study and learning, resulting in the formation of a new worshipping community.

After studying theology, mission and evangelism at the Light College, Martin Jones discovered he was a pioneer, with gifts of evangelism and shepherding. Having learnt how to make disciples who make disciples, he and his wife Valerie Jones planted a church in January 2023.

Martin and Valerie ended up joining the Myriad Illuminate Hub through the Light College and from April 2023 they’ve been gathering and praying for others to join the team. Now they have six leaders who are meeting with a number of people who don’t yet know Jesus.

Martin and Valerie gather together once a month with existing Christians who want to learn how to do this and are interested in starting a house church themselves amongst their family and friends. They also meet up each week with people that don’t know Jesus and disciple in them into the kingdom.

Their gatherings are based on around Acts 2:42, focusing on prayer, food and fellowship, extending their family and including people who perhaps may not feel they fit in more traditional forms of church.
