Mixed Ecology

‘Mixed ecology’ is a key strategic priority in the Church of England’s vision in the 2020s.

Mixed ecology is a description of the Church where new communities of faith complement existing churches in their diocese or region. This could include churches on social housing estates, for specific language groups or completely new pioneering contexts alongside parish churches and cathedrals.

“It is about parishes revitalised for mission … we will develop pathways around where people are — home, work, school, leisure. We want more church, not less — the ministry of the whole people of God – we need to look like the communities we serve.” Archbishop of York Stephen Cottrell
