BECOME

Equipping anyone from a social housing estate with tools to serve their community

Become is for leaders from estate and low income communities at the start of their journeys who may not fit traditional training pathways.

An accessible theology and leadership course, Become is a series of 10 sessions that equips anyone from an estate or low income community with the tools needed to serve their communities or estate churches, or play their part in church planting. CCX offers Become as a course that churches or community leaders can deliver in their local context.

Key questions

Together we cover an overview of the Bible, discovering God’s story from Genesis to Revelation and what this means for us now. We spend time looking at what evangelism means and provide tools to help share our faith. We check in on our own personal development and have space to think about our identity and the callings God has given us. We dive into some of the big questions of life and how we can approach them in light of Jesus. We talk about practical leadership skills and share ideas of how to grow teams and disciple others.

There’s no exam, but participants will need to share what they have learned at the end of the course.

It costs time and commitment, but it doesn’t cost any cash.

What's in Become?

This session aims to inspire participants to recognise their potential as leaders. It emphasises that everyone is made in God’s image and has a unique contribution to make. The session also encourages participants to explore how they can reflect God’s character and engage in his work.

This session explores the overarching narrative of the Bible and how it tells God’s story. The Bible, a collection of 66 books, presents a wide array of stories ranging from heroic feats and intricate plots to divine interventions and teachings of love. These stories are interconnected and showcase four key themes: God’s purpose, God’s people, God’s plan, and God’s promise.

Understanding these themes helps participants comprehend the Bible’s complexity and unity, inviting them to see their own lives as part of God’s ongoing story. This session emphasises the power of stories to shape identities and perceptions, encouraging participants to reflect on their personal connections to biblical narratives and how they can share these stories with others.

This session focuses on deepening participants’ understanding of Jesus Christ through the study of the Apostles’ Creed and the Nicene Creed. It explores the nature of Jesus, the Trinity, and the significance of the Incarnation, helping participants to grasp the fundamental beliefs of Christianity.

In this session, participants will explore the steps needed to start new projects and create new communities by identifying problems and needs in their area. By focusing on real-life examples and practical steps, they will learn how to assess available resources and brainstorm effective solutions to address these needs. The session will end with the development of a plan to bring their ideas to life.

In this session, participants will explore the key elements that make a team successful. They’ll reflect on their experiences with teams, understand the importance of purpose, roles, and relationships within a team, and discuss how these elements contribute to a team’s effectiveness. This session is crucial because it helps individuals understand and apply principles that can transform a group into a well-functioning, supportive team, ultimately leading to better outcomes and experiences for everyone involved.

This session focuses on improving communication and handling conflict effectively. Participants will learn about different communication styles, understand the communication cycle, and explore how personal influences affect their communication. The session also delves into conflict styles and offers practical tips for managing disagreements constructively. This is important because effective communication and conflict resolution are essential skills for maintaining healthy relationships and fostering a positive environment.

This session focuses on understanding, establishing, and maintaining healthy boundaries. Participants will explore what boundaries are, where they come from, and how they influence relationships. They will learn about different types of boundaries, how to communicate them effectively, and how to manage them to avoid extremes of people-pleasing or over-guarding. The session includes activities to help participants identify their own boundaries and understand how to apply them in their lives.

This session explores the role of spiritual disciplines in maintaining a strong connection with God and thriving as Christian leaders. It emphasises the importance of engaging with the Bible, worship, prayer, and commitment to a church community. These disciplines are essential for spiritual growth, resilience in leadership, and fostering a supportive community.

This session helps participants explore their personal identity and leadership roles within the Christian community. It focuses on understanding unique gifts and purpose, using the metaphor of an apple tree to reflect on personal growth, strengths, and potential. Participants will also examine their roles in the broader context of the body of Christ, recognising different leadership styles and how they contribute to the collective mission.

This session is a time to celebrate all that God has done in the lives of participants and to look forward to what He will do through them in the future. Make a fuss of them — this is a big moment!
