Brian Sanders discusses the concept of Micro-churches and how churches can plant on a small scale

Brian discusses the difference between weak and strong-link team games and suggests that a church community is similar to a weak-link team game, where the way to improve the team is to invest in the smallest or weakest expressions of church. Bigger is not necessarily better.

Brian goes on to discuss the importance of enabling the different callings of people in your congregation and the power of intrinsic motivation rather than outside pressure to grow or plant.

Consider your church
Does it feel like a weak or a strong-link ‘game’ to you?
How are you investing in the people around you? Are you investing in the stronger or weaker links of your church?
Do you see different callings Jesus has for people in your congregation? How can you support those?

Exercise

On a practical note, Brian Sanders discusses how to foster the calling of the potential church planters in your congregation.

Think about the following questions for your church:

  • Who in your church are the 20% of people most likely to be involved in church planting?
  • Who are the 20% the least likely to be involved in growth or church planting?
  • How can you support the first 20% in their calling?
  • How can you invest in the growth of the second group of people?
