Jess Locke discusses how to best express your vision, values and culture online

Outline

In this video, Jess Locke outlines tips on how to can you translate your culture, vision, and values online.

1. Keep close to your culture, vision, and values, and let them dictate what you put out digitally (04:11)

  • Everything you do publicly conveys a message, so let your culture, vision, and values be a priority.
  • The internet is a place where you can cultivate your vision and values. It is a place where you can let people know what they should care about and if they have a place at your church.

2. Learn the right platforms for different types of communication (07:03)

  • Try to meet people where they are at, and in a way that is appropriate and approachable.
  • Be intentional about outward-facing and inward-facing communication.

3. Have helpful questions or targets to help you know what to post (08:36)

  • Work out every month what you would like to post weekly (Sundays), monthly (communicating your vision and values), and termly (courses, events…).
  •  Ask yourself evaluatory questions for each piece of media you post. Feel free to use some of the questions below.
    • Has each post been in alignment with our vision in some way?
    • Has each post communicated some part of our values?
    • Have I shown we love our city?
    • Have I communicated Jesus in ways new people could relate with?
    • Have I shown we are diverse in age, gender, and ethnicity?
    • Have I showcased the full life of the church covering areas such as groups, courses, Alpha, and Sundays?
    • Have I shown the fun of Sundays?
    • Have I clearly signposted new people and made them feel welcome?
    • Have I changed people’s perceptions of church for the better?

Exercise

Take a moment to consider the digital presence of your church.

1. Does your online presence accurately communicate your culture, vision, and values?

2. Are you using the right platforms to communicate the right type of information?

3. Do you have a communications plan? What does it look like? How do you track the effectiveness of your online communications?
