Two sermons

Look at how Paul and Peter shared the gospel, taking into account the culture of the people they were speaking to.

Split into groups and read one of the passages readings. Then think through these questions:

• Who is delivering the sermon?
• Where are they speaking? (think country, city, specific location, etc.)
• To whom are they speaking? (try and get as much info on the group as possible from the passage – who are these people?)
• What is the message of the sermon?
• What images and references to culture does the speaker use?
• How do these relate to their audience?

Share with the wider group, comparing your answers. Consider, what is similar in the sermons and what is different?

Why did the speakers choose to adapt their message for their audience?
