God instructs us to follow an unchanging God who changes everything. Throughout the biblical story, God constantly calls people to change so they can experience the promises he has for them and fulfil his purposes. If you need some inspiration to talk about change and transition in your sermons or vision cascades, here are some ideas.
Abraham (Genesis 12:1-9) – God calls him to come out of comfort and certainty and step into discomfort and uncertainty. He had to trust God for the major changes he was called to do for establishing God’s plan for the whole world.
Moses (Genesis 19:1-8) – as a leader, transitioning people from one culture (Egypt) to God’s culture (becoming his royal priesthood and holy nation, living out the ten commandments).
Nehemiah (Nehemiah 2:4, 11-20) – Not only did Nehemiah rise to the challenge to become a visionary leader, but he also had to lead people through change as they repaired the walls and gates of Jerusalem.
Birth of the Church (Acts 2:1-4) When the church was born, it became a radical change that would impact the world forever. We are radically transformed when we become followers of Jesus Christ.
Change and transformation (2 Corinthians 3:12-18) – From Glory to Glory, we are called to deep change, and as a result, we experience a process of transition regularly, as we become more like Christ. By the power of the Spirit, the church produces millions of changed people who become agents of change and transformation.
Adaptable but still true to the gospel (1 Corinthians 9:22, Acts 22) – Paul adapts his delivery of the message to reach different people. “I am become all things to all men, that I may by all means save some.”
Discerning together (1 Chronicles 12:32, Matthew 2:1-12) Watching, listening and responding together, as the Spirit gives direction.
